Why don’t I get encouraged?

To be candid, it’s an awesome feeling to be encouraged to do something or after you’ve done something.

Yeah, it kind of boosts your morale and makes you wanna do more.

Makes you feel important and relevant.

Wow! They believe so much in me.

Wow! Someone commended my efforts.

Well I understand you perfectly.

But the truth is you don’t get that all the time.

Did I say “you don’t get that all the time”?

I’m sorry! It’s even very scarce that you might not get it at all.

So I was in a meeting and people started clamouring, pouring out what they had in their heart which has caused a lot of frustration, anger and bitterness.

Some said they are not always encouraged, they feel irrelevant, nobody believes in them and that’s why they decided to hide at the backside and do nothing.

Wow! I know right.

Although I was amazed but I get it.

We all have different views of life so it’s normal for some people not to think like you.

And in my mind I was like “only if they understood what I go through sometimes”.

There are times where I beat myself up over not executing my assignment well.

There are times where I don’t feel encouraged to read my school books.

There are times where I don’t feel encouraged to blog cause I feel nobody appreciates it, the work load is much, it’s taking a toll on me financially.

Questions like:

Who asked for your opinion?

Who cares about what you have to say?

Where will this take you?

Maureen, aren’t you just wasting your time?

I could exhaust my data on YouTube and Instagram, watching all kinds of stuff that would put a smile on my face rather, I’m here thinking on how to even blog better.

There were also times I don’t feel encouraged to sing because my music director talked down on how I sang and all I want is to be left alone.

Now you see what I’m talking about?

It’s OK to ask yourself some questions sometimes but if they stop you from doing what you have to do, then there’s a problem.

Imagine if your mum doesn’t feel encouraged to raise you as a child  probably you’ve become a burden to her (she’s financially incapacitated)  and can no longer cope – who will question her if she dumps you somewhere  and gets on with her life?

Will you be where you are right now?

You might have become an abandoned kid who has never felt any motherly affection and you’d eventually grow up stigmatized.

Exactly the feeling!

Most of the things we do are not actually for us but for the lifting of others.

What if you decide to stop writing and someone somewhere has always been blessed through your writings only to find out you’ve given up on yourself?

What if I decide to stop singing and someone who always  comes to church because he or she loves the way I sing and they feel the need to work for God, only to see me join the sanitation department because no one ever appreciates me when I sing?

Let nothing stop you from doing what is necessary.

You don’t need to place your confidence or success in whether or not someone appreciates your effort – just keep going!

You’re not only harming yourself by giving up, you’re also limiting the chances of those who are meant to be blessed by doing what you do.

Encourage yourself!

Remain consistent and steadfast. If not for yourself, think of others.

I hope this meets a need.

If you have anything to share, feel free to drop it in the comment section.

Thank you.

Love you,

  1. So true and encouraging. So much value here. One just have to be his own cheerleader and move on to do what you need to do even if you get discouraged because no one is cheering you on.
